Writing prompt #2

Prompt: A picture is worth more than a blank page. Take out those dusty photo albums. Pick out photo #14. Count however way you like, but make sure you stop at photo #14. Look at the photo for 2-3 minutes. Then for 10 minutes, write all the feelings the photograph makes you feel. Don't censor yourself. Just write.

With a good friend by my side, we slowly climbed the large tower. Standing atop the over-sized structure gave me a sense of wonder, of invincibility, of awe. I felt nothing could hurt me up there; I was safe. The brisk air was thin but refreshing. I felt a sense of exhilaration surge through me as I scanned the French landscape below me. I was terrified of heights, but I held on the railing as I leaned over to identify buildings, bridges, and side streets we had walked on just earlier that day. Even though I felt like I was in a dream, I never felt so alive. I never imagined I would be standing on the Eiffel Tower at a mere twenty years old. I felt liberated from all my problems back at home; it was if I left everything at the base of the Tower, and they were taken away. A picture was snapped as we were standing near the Seine, and I watched the river wind its way through the artistic city, carving La Paris in two sections. Climbing down the Tower, a native Parisian heard me speaking French and engaged in dialogue. She was surprised I spoke French at that level and deemed me worthy enough to be a Parisian myself. The joy I felt has only been rivaled by a few other occasions, and this will be a memory snapshot that will never fade.

Looking back at this photo now gives me a sense of gratitude. I was fortunate enough to experience this beautiful city and to fully enjoy it. Paris will always be one of my favorite cities as it is not only magical and romantic, but it inspires the artist in us all. I wish I could hop on the underwater train that runs from London to Paris each weekend, but I feel the city would lose its magical qualities if over-seen.
